Abington 2012 Budget

Dear Friends:

The budget year was a particular challenging one again.  We were presented with an inital $85 tax increase in September.  Over the months we worked with the Department Heads and staff and were able to reduce that to a net tax increase of $25 for a home assessed at $150k.

I had a hard time to vote for a tax increase in these hard  economic times but there were some major events that we as Commissioners had to address and the major one was flooding.  Many parts of the Township saw major problems from the Hurricane and followed up the next week with a tropical storm. This was a devistating time for us as a community.  The Township employees agreed to a no pay raise this year which was a huge part in keep the increase where it ended up.  The police department agreed to hold off hiring replacement Officers until the second half of the year and the refuse department was able to REDUCE the fee $5 this year.

As your Commissioner I did vote to fund these needed items.  The services the Township provides are needed and the cost for them continues to increase.

If you have any questions please give me a call or e-mail.

Regards,
   Jay
